Military Medals

There are several military medals that are awarded to men and women who have distinguished themselves in the armed forces. These include the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Commendation and Achievement Medals. The Purple Heart is awarded to service members who were killed or injured by enemy fire while participating in peacekeeping operations, and in response to terrorist attacks. The Medal of Honor is the highest medal that an armed force officer can receive. It is awarded for extraordinary performance on the battlefield and in the field. Any officer who receives a medal of this sort is likely to receive increased responsibility and authority. However, achieving a medal at this level of honor requires years of hard work and sacrifice. The Distinguished Flying Cross is the third-highest military medal. It is awarded to members of the armed forces, as well as civilians.
